Any time I'm yelling at a kid, it's too much and it's because I haven't planned ahead about how I'm going to respond.

No problem, rach. I did not grow up in a home of yelling so when I do it..it pains me. I'm going to make a strong effort next year to control my yelling. Thanks for the post!

Sadly, I have become a yeller and I hate it. I did not grow up in a home of yelling so when I do it..it pains me. I wasn't reading in the field any more; I wasn't going to conferences; I wasn't presenting.
At a job interview (not the best place for that to happen) I realized that I had not done anything to improve my teaching in about three years. So I sat on my bum and took an online class. Got on the net surfing for calls for papers and presentations and generally anything that would get me back out of the nest and flying and started doing those things.
So I could really relate to your comment on losing the excitement.

I had gotten bored with teaching and was seriously considering a career change, even though I have always loved teaching, when I realized that I had quit learning.
