March 2007

1097761_rabbitAs we begin the month of March, I want to take a look back a year ago and see where my thoughts and focus were oriented. For me, this is productive as it helps me to see the progress, or more accurately the changes, that have happened over the last year.

For me, this is productive as it helps me to see the progress, or more accurately the changes, that have happened over the last yearLast March I seem to have been really focusing on motivation (both with the students and with myself). This time of year can really begin to drag on, especially as we look to spring break and realize that there are few if any three day weekends between us and the end of the school year. Once again, these articles have no comments attached to them.

As a side note for those of you who haven’t visited the actual blog website lately, check out the cool boxed quotes that I have begun adding. What do you think about those?

Joel Wagner (@sywtt) began teaching band in 2002. Though he had a lot of information, his classes were out of control. He found himself tired, frustrated, disrespected by students, lonely, and on the brink of quitting. He had had enough. He resigned from his school district right before spring break of his second year and made it his personal mission to learn to be a great teacher. So You Want To Teach? is the ongoing story of that quest for educational excellence.

  1. Thanks Tina. I hope to be able to keep up the good work. It seems that lately, I have been metaphorically stepping on peoples’ toes both in the classroom and on here. After contest on April 10th, my mind will be more clear…
