Principals Gone Wild

341778_executive.jpgI like my principal. In fact, I like every principal I have worked with and for. I read a news article today that concerns me and makes me glad that I have had great administrators to work for thus far in my career.

Then I got home and looked for a few more. Here’s what I came up with.

I also found this video. Crazy stuff.

Joel Wagner (@sywtt) began teaching band in 2002. Though he had a lot of information, his classes were out of control. He found himself tired, frustrated, disrespected by students, lonely, and on the brink of quitting. He had had enough. He resigned from his school district right before spring break of his second year and made it his personal mission to learn to be a great teacher. So You Want To Teach? is the ongoing story of that quest for educational excellence.

You’re telling me! I have seen good administrators and bad administrators in the districts I’ve worked in. As I said, I have been fortunate to work with very helpful and considerate principals. I’ve also seen firsthand the effects that poor leadership can have on colleagues. Maybe I’ll be a good principal when I grow up…
