Audio: 03/28/08

762071_gramophoneI recently got a little $20 voice recorded device for my iPod because I figured it might make good quality recordings of class. I was right. Here’s 25 minutes from this past Friday’s woodwind class for those who want to hear what goes on in my classroom.

Not sure if this will be interesting to most of you, but it’s worth a shot. Let me know if these are interesting or of value to any of you.

The music we worked on is Sakura by Michael Story and Voodoo Dance by Eliot del Borgo.

  1. What kind of recording device did you buy? brand, model….I have been wanting to record my kids performing in class too…but didn’t even know where to start.

  2. It’s a Macally iVoiceIII. It lists for $50 on their website, but I got it at Wal Mart for just over $20 with tax.

    The built in microphone is mono, but it has a 1/8″ stereo input jack so you can hook up an external mic (or mics) if you want.

    I’m going to record them at our full band rehearsal on Tuesday afternoon.

    I have used a variety of devices over the years (cassette, mini-disc), but now am using the Zoom H-2. It’s completely portable and has amazing sound quality. It’s more expensive than your device (just under $200), but you could use it to record a concert and be very satisfied with the results.

  5. Thanks, Dale. I actually have access to a great hard disk recorder/CD burner, I just like to be able to use my iPod to play recordings in class and make them all at the same time. :)

    The Zoom H-2 looks nice in my quick glance at it on the website. Maybe I’ll save up for it and use it next year…
