Help Me Change The World! Seriously

51Riav4hVOL._AA240_On July 4th, author Timothy Ferriss wrote a blog entry about changing the world.

In response to his request for ideas, I wrote:

As a teacher, your book has revolutionized the way I intend on teaching next year. I am going to start the year checking emails once a day and then gradually decrease that to two days a week.

It’s amazing how much time most teachers waste with mundane and unimportant tasks.

Your points on the difference between efficient and effective have really changed my paradigm of work. I wrote a blog article about it.

I would definitely send at least a small chunk of the books to leaders in the National Science Teachers Association. Science teachers talkto other teachers and it will help some there see the light. If you’re seriously aiming to double the number of science majors in the US, this sounds like a great place to start.

He liked my idea. Today I received the following email:

Hi Joel,

I liked your suggestion to donate books to the National Science Teachers Assoc.. Might you be able to help me find specifics?

How many books should I send to these “leaders” (multiples of 12), and to whom should I ship them? Sorry to offload this on you, but I’m on the road and need to get offline to move on :)

Thanks in advance if you can help!

Tim

So now my question I pose to you, the teaching community is:

What are some ways that you would suggest changing the world?

Specifically, do you know anyone involved in the National Science Teachers Association, who would have the influence and interest in getting this project underway, 12 books at a time?

What about getting Mr. Ferriss invited to make a presentation at one of their conferences this fall in Detroit, Denver, and/or Birmingham? Perhaps he could give away 12 books at each presentation?

I am not the most creative person in the world. I am seriously soliciting ideas to help me come up with some kind of answer to get back with him. If you would be so kind as to link to this article and send other people my way, I would be grateful for it as you help me change the world!

He had had enough. He resigned from his school district right before spring break of his second year and made it his personal mission to learn to be a great teacher. So You Want To Teach? is the ongoing story of that quest for educational excellence.
