Why School Dress Code Is Important [VIDEO]

1181506_one_step_2How many guns do you see? This is an amazing video that demonstrates the violence that can result simply by a school’s failure to have an enforce a no-tolerance dress code. I have watched this video numerous times to check and recheck how harmless he looks at the beginning of the video. Truly amazing and frightening at the same time.

Joel Wagner (@sywtt) began teaching band in 2002. Though he had a lot of information, his classes were out of control. He found himself tired, frustrated, disrespected by students, lonely, and on the brink of quitting. He had had enough. He resigned from his school district right before spring break of his second year and made it his personal mission to learn to be a great teacher. So You Want To Teach? is the ongoing story of that quest for educational excellence.

  1. While I disagree with school uniforms or stringent dress codes in general, there are some good arguments that can be made for having them.

This example is not one of them. It’s trying to stir up fear to support the argument. In order for this line of reasoning to work, you would also have to bag all backpacks, purses, gym bags, or any item of clothing that wasn’t skin tight. I’m willing to bet you would hide a gun in the pocket of a pair of dress pants just as well as in the pocket of a pair of jeans.
