SYWTT Voicemail

492383_telephoneI recently got my Google Voice invitation and decided to set it up. In playing around with the settings this afternoon, I realized that I could set up a widget to connect my readers directly to my voicemail. I don’t know how many people are interested in connecting to me this way, but I thought it might be a nice way to provide some opportunities for increased communication.

Who knows, this may open up a way for me to get some questions from readers. If the response is positive, I might even post the phone number so maybe some of you could share the number with friends who don’t do the whole blogging thing, but have questions about teaching problems. If I get a question that I can’t or don’t know how to address, I could post the question to the blog and see if our collective community of over 1,000 readers might be able to come up with some solutions.

If you want to call and tell me everything that I’m doing wrong with the blog, or just give me a suggestion or comment, feel free. The widget is at the bottom of the right sidebar on the blog, but I’ll include it here as well.

By the way, to all those people who shared a link for any post from this blog on del.icio.us or Twitter this weekend, THANK YOU! The response was huge. In fact, one of Karen’s guest posts popped up on the del.icio.us Popular Links page for a while yesterday. It was nice to come home from a weekend of drumcorps and have that little surprise waiting for me!

Joel Wagner (@sywtt) began teaching band in 2002. Though he had a lot of information, his classes were out of control. He found himself tired, frustrated, disrespected by students, lonely, and on the brink of quitting. He had had enough. He resigned from his school district right before spring break of his second year and made it his personal mission to learn to be a great teacher. So You Want To Teach? is the ongoing story of that quest for educational excellence.

  1. Good for you, Joel, in experimenting with something new! I love the idea! I’ll be anxiously awaiting your report on how well it’s working…might even try it myself now!

  2. I got my google voice account invitation the other day and I am super happy. It’s kinda funny how it transcribes the voicemail in text format, I had a voicemail left that when transcribed read:
‘This is Carl, I’m eating bricks forgot to live and fall the red helmet.’
Hopefully they’ll work out whatever bugs they have going on, or perhaps I should just inform my callers to just /speak more clearly/
