Welcome to So You Want To Teach? My name is Joel. I am a Band Director in Texas and have successfully completed my fifth year of teaching. I started this blog as an attempt to help myself and others be the best teacher in the world. Not necessarily the best in the whole world, but the best in your world. As we improve, our definition for “the world” enlarges.

What others are saying

I like this guy cause he is posting some genuinely good stuff for teachers (or future teachers) … So read all the great articles he has posted, leave him a comment about it, link him in your blogroll and wait for great things to come out of this blog. — Eric Turner

When I first arrived at So You Want To Teach?, I noticed one thing. What a nice layout! I could tell Joel, a band director in Texas, put a lot of effort into his blog … Joel’s blog is a valuable resource for teachers of all kinds, elementary through high school, possibly even college. If you’re already a teacher, or thinking of becoming one, I recommend you spend some time reading the articles on this blog. It can only help you to understand the challenges you face. — RT Cunningham

What an awesome blog!

Hey Joel, when you get a minute, I have a website you have to check out. My organization, DonorsChoose, (www.donorschoose.org) has given over 13 million in classroom supplies to innovative teachers across the country.

We are in the hugest competition in the country for innovative non-profits: the American Express Members Project. If at all possible, we could really use your support to help us compete with huge non-profits like Unicef, some of which have corporate partners helping them get votes. If you can, please post a link to the members project on your website (http://www.membersproject.com/Education/5630).

Great site mate! I am a teacher from Queensland Australia and I found your articles very useful. Your list of videos was especially useful as was the list of reasons to stick with teaching (I was feeling a bit disillusioned at the time). I found your site so useful I have added it to my blog roll. Keep up the great work.
