Dissection of a Band Director

2010-01-06-Dissection-of-a-Band-Director

I saw this cartoon posted on The Yellow Board yesterday and thought some of my musician-type readers wouldappreciate it. The cartoon is by John Bogenschutz (www.johnmusic.com).

Over the Christmas Break, a few of the band directors from around the area got together and played some quartets around town. I’m the only one who has played seriously since college, and it’s been about 5 months since I did that too. We were all suffering by the time we got to the end of our gigging. So the “Wonders how much longer he can keep his streak of not touching an instrument going” comment really made me crack up when I first saw it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy Dissection of a Band Director as much as I did.

Joel Wagner (@sywtt) began teaching band in 2002. Though he had a lot of information, his classes were out of control. He found himself tired, frustrated, disrespected by students, lonely, and on the brink of quitting. He had had enough. He resigned from his school district right before spring break of his second year and made it his personal mission to learn to be a great teacher. So You Want To Teach? is the ongoing story of that quest for educational excellence.
